Social Change is hosting the Juneteenth Freedom Celebration Expungement Summit Saturday June 15th at 6946 S. Stewart Ave. Beginning at 11am participants will enjoy music, food, fun and games as well as health screenings and access to legal expungement services free of charge. At the legal clinic pop-up individuals get access to experienced lawyers and insight on the pathway to sealing records. Cannabis company Ascend Wellness is one of the partners and an advocate for social equity.

“Ascend is dedicated to criminal justice reform, with a history of hosting expungement clinics, providing legal assistance, and offering mental health services to formerly incarcerated individuals. This initiative is part of their vision for a diverse, equitable, and restorative cannabis industry. In 2023, CO-LAB participated in 20 clinics and donated over $300,000 to these causes,” shared an Ascend representative.

Social Change is a non-profit organization that supports communities in 8 states including Illinois through direct action and policy changes. The organization has helped impact over 100,000 families nationwide. Expungement events have been vital to those who were impacted by cannabis incarcerations and a step towards employment and financial independence.
