Concrete Rose 773  announced their hosting of the "Ty Johnson'' Skills Camp. Executive Director Darrin “DJ” Cotton Jr., a former collegiate athlete himself said, “Concrete Rose 773 is all about making a positive impact on Chicago youth. Cotton himself was inspired to create the organization after retiring from his collegiate sports career after a successful high school experience as a two sport athlete. “I played football and basketball and ended up playing football in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

But after three years of playing I'm on a new path. This event is exactly what’s needed for youth to understand opportunities within sports but not as players,” shared Cotton. Over 100 student athletes ranging from 6-14 have registered and Cotton has a full day of activities for parents and youth.

“It’s a skills camp and has other components to it. We have financial literacy with Brandon Mr. Finance for parents and kids, mental health programming and career development conversations,” he said.

The camp will be held at Wendell Phillips High School (244 E. Pershing Rd.) and is free for all to attend. “We’ve served over 1000 youth since we started and it’s always exciting to work with our local athletes' and get the support of local businesses like Product of Chicago and global brands like Walmart,” Cotton said.

Parents are invited to stay to take advantage of the days events beginning at 9am Saturday morning June 29th.
